** OgĂșn** is the Orisha of iron, war, labor, and the forest. His dance is one of the most powerful and physically demanding in the Orisha repertoire â forceful, relentless, and rooted in the imagery of cutting through obstacles.

## Dance Character
OgĂșn's dance evokes the work of the blacksmith and the warrior:
- **Heavy, grounded energy** â the body has weight; movements are purposeful and strong
- **Machete imagery** â the primary motif is cutting, chopping, and clearing; the arms sweep in wide, powerful arcs
- **Forward momentum** â OgĂșn moves with determination; he doesn't stop or waver
- **Martial posture** â upright, chest forward, commanding presence
## Key Movements
- **Machete arm sweeps** â wide, horizontal and vertical arcs of the arms simulating cutting through forest or battle
- **Stomping footwork** â heavy, deliberate steps that connect to the earth
- **Warrior stance** â wide base, low center of gravity, ready for combat
- **Repetitive chopping motion** â rhythmic, driven by the relentless pulse of his toque
## Props
OgĂșn dancers often carry a **machete** (real or simulated) â his primary symbol and tool. The machete cuts the path for everything that follows.
## Relationship to EleguĂĄ
In ceremony, OgĂșn follows EleguĂĄ. Where EleguĂĄ opens the path with his trickster energy, OgĂșn cuts through it with brute force. Together they clear the way for the rest of the Orishas.
