Mambo
Mambo was Cuba's first global music explosion â the form that put Cuban rhythms on dance floors from New York to Tokyo in the late 1940s and 1950s, and the direct ancestor of the Latin big band sound.
Origins: The DanzĂłn Diablo
The mambo did not emerge fully formed â it grew out of danzĂłn in the late 1930s. The key figures were brothers Orestes LĂłpez (cello) and Israel "Cachao" LĂłpez ( bass), musicians in the charanga orchestra Arcaño y Sus Maravillas.
